Dead by Daylight Will Make Highly Requested Change to The Nightmare

Dead by Daylight's The Nightmare Receives a Major Rework

Dead by Daylight's iconic Killer, Freddy Krueger (The Nightmare), is getting a significant overhaul in a future patch. This rework aims to address player concerns regarding his current weakness and bring him more in line with his terrifying persona. The changes focus on increased flexibility, updated powers, and adjusted add-ons to enhance his gameplay and competitiveness.

The core change introduces the ability to seamlessly swap between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, providing a dynamic and adaptable playstyle. Dream Snares are updated to move at 12 m/s, traversing walls and stairs, while Dream Pallets now explode upon activation, inflicting damage and manipulating Survivor sleep timers. The effects of both powers vary depending on whether the Survivor is asleep or awake, reflecting Freddy's amplified power within the Dream World.

Key Changes to The Nightmare's Abilities:

  • Swappable Powers: Players can now switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets using the active ability.
  • Enhanced Dream Snares: These now travel at 12 m/s, ignoring walls and stairs (but not ledges), with a 5-second cooldown. Impacting a sleeping Survivor hinders them for 4 seconds; impacting an awake Survivor adds 30 seconds to their sleep meter.
  • Explosive Dream Pallets: These can be triggered to explode after 1.5 seconds, dealing damage within a 3-meter radius. Hitting a sleeping Survivor inflicts injury; hitting an awake Survivor adds 60 seconds to their sleep meter.
  • Improved Teleportation: The Nightmare can now teleport to any generator (completed, blocked, or endgame), and directly to Survivors actively healing in the Dream World. Teleporting near a healing Survivor reveals them via Killer Instinct for the duration of healing (with a 3-second linger after stopping). Survivors within 8 meters of a teleport gain 15 seconds added to their sleep meter.
  • Reduced Teleport Cooldown: The teleport cooldown is reduced from 45 to 30 seconds, and cancellation is no longer possible.
  • Alarm Clock Changes: Sleeping Survivors can use any alarm clock to wake up, but each clock enters a 45-second cooldown after use.

Add-on Adjustments and Unchanged Perks:

While several add-ons will be adjusted to encourage creative loadouts, The Nightmare's perks (Fire Up, Remember Me, and Blood Warden) remain unchanged. This decision might be to maintain the Killer's original design intent, although their current competitiveness is a point of discussion.

The updated Nightmare is expected to be significantly more competitive and offer a more engaging and thematically accurate gameplay experience. While the exact release date isn't specified, these changes are currently implemented in the Public Test Build (PTB).
