Concord: A Hero Shooter Roadmap and Gameplay Insights
With Concord's launch on August 23rd fast approaching, Sony and Firewalk Studios have unveiled details about the game's post-launch content and gameplay strategies. This article summarizes their recent announcements.
No Battle Pass, Focus on Rewarding Gameplay
Concord will launch without a traditional battle pass system. Instead, Firewalk Studios aims to provide a rewarding experience through base gameplay, character progression, and job completion. Rewards will be earned organically, focusing on a robust, day-one experience.
Season 1: The Tempest (October 2024)
Concord's first season, "The Tempest," arrives in October, introducing:
- A new playable Freegunner character.
- A brand-new map.
- Additional Freegunner Variants.
- New cosmetics and rewards.
- Weekly Cinematic Vignettes expanding the Northstar crew storyline.
- An in-game store offering purely cosmetic items with no gameplay impact.
Season 2 and Beyond (January 2025)
Season 2 is planned for January 2025, with Firewalk Studios committed to regular seasonal updates throughout Concord's first year.
Gameplay Strategy and Crew Builder
Game director Ryan Ellis emphasized Concord's unique "Crew Builder" system. Players create teams of five Freegunners, allowing up to three copies of any Variant. This encourages diverse team compositions, focusing on Freegunners' roles rather than traditional archetypes like Tank or Support.
The six roles – Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden – are defined by their impact on the match, such as area control, long-range advantage, and flanking. Balancing roles unlocks Crew Bonuses, offering benefits like increased mobility and reduced cooldowns. Freegunners are designed for high DPS and effectiveness in direct combat.
