Capcom Games Competition Opens Up RE ENGINE for Student Focused Challenge

Capcom has officially announced the launch of the Capcom Games Competition, an unprecedented game development contest specifically designed for students in Japan. This competition leverages Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE, with the objective of revitalizing the video game industry by fostering research at educational institutions. Through this industrial-academic partnership, Capcom aims to enhance the industry, promote research development, and nurture emerging talent within the competition.

In the contest, students will form teams of up to 20 members, each assigned roles akin to those in professional game development. Over the course of six months, these teams will collaborate to create a game, receiving guidance from seasoned Capcom developers. This hands-on experience will immerse students in "cutting-edge game development processes." Furthermore, Capcom is set to provide the competition winners with "game production support and the opportunity for commercialization."

Capcom Games Competition Opens Up RE ENGINE for Student Focused Challenge

The application window for the competition will open on December 9, 2024, and close on January 17, 2025, unless otherwise specified. Eligible participants must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in a university, graduate school, or vocational school in Japan.

RE ENGINE, also referred to as Reach for the Moon Engine, is Capcom's proprietary game development engine, initially crafted in 2014 for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2017. Since its inception, the engine has been employed in numerous Capcom titles, including other Resident Evil games, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds set for release next year. The engine is continuously evolving and being upgraded to facilitate the creation of even higher-quality games.
