Spider-Man 2's PC port, initially touted for its surprising performance based on its system requirements, has received a mixed reception on Steam. A significant portion of user reviews (45%) are negative, citing various technical issues.

Many players, even those with high-end GPUs like the RTX 4090, report frequent crashes. One user described the game as "completely unplayable," experiencing crashes every five minutes. Reviewers consistently mention the game's instability, describing performance as "rough," with problems including lighting glitches in cutscenes, extremely low frame rates in certain scenes, audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and other performance issues. Several users have already requested refunds due to the game's current state.

A common error message points to display driver problems, suggesting outdated drivers, overly demanding in-game settings, GPU overheating, or game errors as potential causes. Beyond crashes, users report issues with DLSS and ray tracing functionality, long loading times, missing textures, and persistent audio problems. Some players claim performance stutters worsen after extended play sessions, eventually resulting in hard crashes, leading to speculation about a potential memory leak.

Nixxes Software, the porting studio, acknowledged the issues on the Steam forums. They directed users to their support website for troubleshooting guides, requesting logs and crash dumps to aid in faster problem resolution. Nixxes also addressed a specific bug affecting photo-op missions, suggesting lowering graphics settings or resolution as a temporary workaround if frame rates drop below 20 FPS.
