The next chapter in the Sonic the Hedgehog saga is on its way! Paramount Pictures has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will zoom onto the big screen on March 19th, 2027. This news comes courtesy of Variety, giving fans a two-year countdown until the blue blur returns. While specifics remain under wraps, the release date alone speaks volumes.

The announcement is hardly surprising, considering the phenomenal success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The film raked in a remarkable $218 million domestically and over $420 million worldwide, securing its place as the highest-grossing Sonic film to date, surpassing the impressive $148 million earned by the first installment. This triumph is even more noteworthy given the initial controversy surrounding Sonic's original design, which underwent significant alterations during post-production.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also achieved the distinction of being the second highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie. The rivalry between Nintendo and Sega continues, this time on the silver screen.

PlayThe live-action Sonic franchise has steadily expanded, now boasting three feature films and a Knuckles-centric spin-off streaming series.

Based on Sega's iconic video game franchise, the films follow Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he confronts his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Each sequel has introduced more beloved characters, including Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba), with Sonic 3 finally unveiling Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).

While Sonic 3 hinted at the next character joining the franchise, we'll keep that a secret for now. For those eager to learn more, our character guide and Sonic 3 review are readily available.
