Marvel Snap has returned and developers wish to switch publishers

On January 19th, a temporary shutdown of TikTok in the US unexpectedly impacted Marvel Snap, the popular card game published by Nuverse (a ByteDance subsidiary). This resulted in a 24-hour outage before the game was restored, though in-app purchases remain unavailable.

The disruption stemmed from the precarious political situation surrounding TikTok's US operations. Facing a 90-day deadline to sell a 50% stake to a local owner, the company and its associated projects like Marvel Snap risk further blockages if this agreement fails. This has prompted Second Dinner Studios, Marvel Snap's developer, to explore a publisher change and internalizing some services to mitigate future risks, as announced on X.

While the game is back online, players are reporting authorization issues. PC players via Steam remained unaffected. Second Dinner expressed surprise at the incident and assured players via an official X statement: “Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.” The lack of prior warning caused frustration, particularly for players who made in-game purchases before the outage. Further details are promised from Second Dinner Studios.
