Netflix Announces Yet Another Price Hike as it Adds a Record Number of New Subscribers

Netflix celebrated a record-breaking quarter, surpassing 300 million paid subscribers for the first time. This achievement, fueled by a remarkable 19 million new subscribers in Q4 2024 and a record 41 million for the full year, prompted another price increase. While this is the last quarter Netflix will formally report subscriber growth figures, they will continue announcing milestones.

This price hike, affecting most plans in the U.S., Canada, Portugal, and Argentina, follows previous increases in 2022 and 2023. Netflix justified the move in its shareholder letter, citing continued investment in programming and a commitment to delivering greater value to its members. The company stated that these price adjustments were already factored into their 2025 guidance.

While the letter didn't specify the exact price increases, reports suggest the ad-supported plan will rise from $6.99 to $7.99, the standard ad-free plan from $15.49 to $17.99, and the premium plan from $22.99 to $24.99.

A new "extra member with ads" plan has also been introduced, allowing ad-supported subscribers to add an extra household member for an additional fee—a feature previously restricted to standard and premium plans.

Netflix's Q4 revenue reached $10.2 billion, a 16% year-over-year increase, mirroring the annual revenue growth of $39 billion. The company projects 12% to 14% year-over-year revenue growth in 2025.
