Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, is set to take on the character of Lobo in the upcoming 2026 DC Universe film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an alien bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality, originates from the now-extinct planet Czarnia. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and shares the tragic backstory of being the last of his kind, much like Superman.

Momoa's transition from the DCEU to the rebooted DCU as Lobo marks a significant shift, driven by his personal affinity for the character. He has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, citing aesthetic similarities as a key reason for his excitement to portray him.

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa teased fans with a glimpse of what to expect from Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He mentioned being both excited and nervous about the role, emphasizing the importance of staying true to the character's rough and gruff nature. Momoa also hinted at the iconic elements of Lobo, including his motorcycle, but kept details sparse to avoid spoilers.

When asked about the extent of Lobo's screen time, Momoa clarified that while the movie centers on Supergirl, Lobo will make a notable, albeit brief, appearance. "It's her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit," he stated.

In related news, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, confirming that filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has begun. The film draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, focusing on a standalone story involving an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, seeking vengeance for her father's murder with the help of Supergirl.

The cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026, following the premiere of James Gunn's Superman earlier that summer. Another DCU film, featuring Clayface, is scheduled for September 2026.
