The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 premiere date was exclusively revealed at IGN Fan Fest 2025: May 4, 2025.
IGN showcased an exclusive clip and interviews with Scott Gimple (Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead universe), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) during Fan Fest 2025 Day 2. Cohan offered insight into Maggie's mental state entering Season 2: "Sadly, not everything is quite as rosy as it could be, or seems, or one would hope," she explained. "My son is still a teenage boy, and there are these natural tensions of navigating family life. And I've got Ginny in my care, she's a teenage girl. So there are very relatable domestic dynamics playing out alongside the apocalyptic world, trying to eat, stay safe, and sleep. That's where we find ourselves before another big bad thing happens."
Jeffrey Dean Morgan discussed Negan's evolution from villain to fan favorite and his current predicament: "We find Negan very much under the thumb of The Dama and The Croat, on unfamiliar ground," he said. "He's going to try to flip that script, of course, but he's in a place he's not enjoying. At the beginning of the season, we find him having a hard time with all of it. He's always scheming, trying to figure out how to get on top, but he finds himself in a hard spot." He also reflected on Lucille, Negan's iconic barbed-wire bat: "The Lucille of it all... what can I say? I love that thing! It's the only prop I've ever enjoyed carrying around. It brought back fond memories for me... not for Lauren!"
Gimple teased the Season 2 conflict: "There is no single big bad. There's a lot of shifting in the power ranking. It isn't all antagonistic; it's more complex, more political, and then we get kinda physical."
IGN also shared the opening minutes of Season 2's premiere episode.
