Author: Lily Feb 11,2025

Hello discerning readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024. Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting reveals, wasn't it? A flurry of surprise releases means our typically quiet Wednesday is anything but – and that's a welcome change. We've got news, a review of today's eShop additions, and the usual rundown of new and expiring sales. Let's dive in!

News

Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivers a Bounty of Games

The decision to present two smaller showcases was a smart move, resulting in a wealth of announcements. While a complete rundown is impossible here, highlights include several surprise releases (detailed in the New Releases section), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new Atelier and Rune Factory titles, and much more. I highly recommend watching the video; even a quick skim will reveal many appealing titles for diverse tastes.

Select New Releases

Castlevania Dominus Collection ($24.99)

Among the Direct's many pleasant surprises was a third Castlevania compilation. This one features the three Nintendo DS entries: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the notoriously poor arcade game, Haunted Castle, alongside an M2-developed remake that significantly improves upon the original. As expected from M2, this is a high-quality package boasting excellent emulation and desirable features. An exceptional value for the price.

Pizza Tower ($19.99)

This Wario Land-inspired, fast-paced platformer makes its Switch debut as a surprise release. Players navigate five massive floors of the Pizza Tower to destroy it and save their restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will find this a must-have, but even those without strong Wario feelings who enjoy platformers should consider it. A review is planned, time permitting.

Goat Simulator 3 ($29.99)

Another surprise release on a Wednesday – without these, we'd have little to report! Goat Simulator 3 delivers more of the same chaotic gameplay. While performance on the Switch remains unverified, it's worth noting that more powerful consoles have experienced some performance issues. Proceed with caution, though even poor performance might add to the game's deliberately absurd nature. Ultimately, it's your call: silly goats, silly antics, open-world mayhem – your Switch might not appreciate it.

Peglin ($19.99)

While it's tempting to criticize EA's decision to not bring PopCap games to Switch, Peglin provides a satisfying alternative for Peggle enthusiasts. Already available on mobile, it's equally enjoyable on Switch. Essentially a blend of Peggle and a turn-based RPG roguelite. A review will follow soon for more details.

Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story ($20.00)

Kairosoft's latest shop simulation game adds a familiar license to its established formula. Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story features characters from the popular Doraemon franchise. The license is well-integrated, with even some appearances from the manga artist's other works. A charming addition.

Pico Park 2 ($8.99)

More Pico Park for existing fans. Up to eight players can participate via local or online multiplayer. The more, the merrier applies here, with cooperative puzzle stages demanding strategic thinking. A solid sequel, though unlikely to attract new players.

Kamitsubaki City Ensemble ($3.99)

An affordable rhythm game showcasing Kamitsubaki Studio's music. Simple gameplay, engaging story, and enjoyable tunes. A budget-friendly option.

SokoPenguin ($4.99)

A Sokoban-style puzzle game with a penguin protagonist. One hundred levels of crate-pushing challenges.

Q2 Humanity ($6.80)

Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles. Players utilize character abilities and drawing mechanics to solve problems. Supports up to four players locally or online.
