Skyblivion, a fan-made recreation of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within the Skyrim engine, is slated for a 2025 release.

A recent developer update stream confirmed the team's commitment to this ambitious goal. Developed by volunteer modders, Skyblivion represents a massive undertaking, years in the making. Despite the scale, the team remains confident in a 2025 launch, stating they aim to "finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation."

The project goes beyond a simple port. The developers are significantly overhauling aspects of the original Oblivion, including ensuring "unique items are actually unique" and enhancing boss encounters, specifically mentioning Mannimarco. The stream showcased the "A Brush with Death" quest, highlighting the impressive visual fidelity.

This impressive fan effort comes amidst rumors of an official Oblivion remake. Details of a potential official remake surfaced earlier this year, suggesting combat overhauls and other changes. While Microsoft has remained silent, the existence of an Oblivion remaster was hinted at in documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial.

The existence of a substantial fan-made remake could potentially impact Microsoft and Bethesda's plans for an official release. Bethesda games have a rich history of community modding, and hopefully, Skyblivion avoids the late-stage development issues that plagued Fallout London.
