Dynasty Warriors: Origins lacks a dedicated sprint button; your character automatically sprints after a few running steps. While sprinting offers speed, traversing large battlefields to reach officers quickly is crucial for victory.

This is where your horse proves invaluable, summonable at any time in the overworld or during battles. Engage in combat from horseback for swift hit-and-run tactics. Here's how to acquire your first horse, enhance its abilities, and switch between mounts.

How To Obtain Your First Steed in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your initial mount is a free gift! After completing the second major battle, "Test Of Zheng Fei," in Chapter 1, locate a merchant in the overworld. He'll be northeast of Wan Castle, before reaching the camp, near his horse. Speak to him to receive your first horse; it will be automatically equipped.

Summon your horse by pressing down on the left joystick (console) or V (keyboard).

Leveling Up Your Mount in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your horse gains experience points (XP) based on completed missions, even if unused during the mission itself. Note that skirmishes do not award XP. Missions, indicated by a red diamond with a soldier icon, provide moderate-length battles for XP gain. The XP earned depends on battle duration, your riding time, and charging into enemies. Leveling up unlocks unique buffs for each horse at certain levels.

Switching Mounts in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

While your first horse is automatically equipped, others can be acquired and used. Access the Battle Preparation menu; the mount selection is the last option on the left. Each horse possesses unique advantages; some are inherently faster or superior. Maximize a region's peace level to unlock new horses as rewards at nearby waypoints.
