The latest round of Silksong speculation stems from the pre- and post-Switch 2 reveal activities of William Pellen, one of the game's creators, on Twitter (X).

On January 15th, Pellen cryptically tweeted, "Something big is coming. Keep your eyes peeled tomorrow," seemingly alluding to the January 16th Switch 2 announcement. The inevitable Silksong questions arose, but his subsequent actions ignited the speculation fire.

Following the January 16th, 2025 Switch 2 announcement and the reveal of an upcoming Direct on April 2nd, Pellen changed his profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed the image originated from a Bon Appetit article featuring a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe, published on April 2nd, 2024.

He also commented on the article with "mmmm tasty," prompting dedicated fans to analyze the cake and its connection to Silksong. One fan even pledged to bake the cake if Silksong news arrived by April 2nd, 2025, while another playfully commented on the cake's "silky texture," cleverly linking it to the game and the upcoming Nintendo Direct.

It's important to note that Pellen's comment on the recipe remains unverified, but the profile picture change is undeniable, sparking intrigue and speculation, even if ultimately unfounded.

Hollow Knight: Silksong – A Five-Year Wait

Initially announced on February 14th, 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was slated for release on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The sequel follows Hornet's adventures in a new kingdom.

After a soundtrack preview in December 2019, Team Cherry went silent for over two years. In February 2022, Pellen reassured fans of the game's ongoing development, promising updates closer to release. A June 2022 trailer at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase showcased new gameplay and confirmed its Game Pass availability upon launch.

Despite initial hopes for a 2023 release, Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin confirmed a delay in May 2023, citing the game's expanded scope. "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing," Griffin explained. "We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."
