If you're eagerly awaiting Shawn Levy's upcoming Star Wars movie, you can breathe a sigh of relief—the Deadpool & Wolverine director is still committed to the project. Jonathan Tropper, the writer behind the film, recently shared an optimistic update with Screen Rant, expressing his excitement and hinting that the film may arrive sooner than fans might expect. "I am [excited] too," Tropper stated. "I hope it's on the way sooner than you think."

As of now, details about the movie remain largely under wraps. However, we do know it is set to take place after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has provided some insight into its timeline, stating in a February interview with Deadline, "That's also in the future. It's all post-[the first] nine. Shawn's is a standalone Star Wars story that'll take place post-nine, maybe five or six years out." This positions Levy's film as the first to delve into the post-Rise of Skywalker era.

In the same conversation, Kennedy also clarified the release schedule, noting that Levy's film will follow 2026's The Mandalorian and Grogu. "I'm producing the Mandalorian movie right now, and I'm also producing Shawn Levy's movie, which is after that," she explained. Additionally, it's been reported that Ryan Gosling is set to star in the film, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.

While Tropper's comments suggest progress, fans should prepare for a wait, as the movie is not expected to arrive until at least the last quarter of 2026, or possibly 2027.

Since Disney's last Star Wars film, the critically panned Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, several other planned projects have been canceled, including one from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and a trilogy from Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. Moreover, a Star Wars movie slated for late 2026 was removed from Disney's release calendar in November.

Every Upcoming Star Wars Movie and TV Show

21 ImagesAt the 2023 Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm unveiled three new Star Wars feature films: a New Republic film directed by Dave Filoni set within his Mando-verse, a Dawn of the Jedi movie led by James Mangold, and a New Jedi Order feature directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which will see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey post-Rise of Skywalker.

The Obaid-Chinoy project has seen multiple changes, including the recent departure of screenwriter Steven Knight, who had taken over from Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Despite these shifts, Rey remains a focal point for Disney's future Star Wars projects, with reports indicating she will feature in several upcoming films.

Beyond these, Disney has even more in store for Star Wars fans. Last year, it was announced that X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is set to write a new trilogy, which, contrary to initial rumors, will not continue the Skywalker Saga.

The next Star Wars content to grace your screens will be Season 2 of Andor, premiering on Disney+ on April 22 with a triple episode launch, promising an action-packed return to the beloved series.
