Punisher Returns in Marvel Special After Daredevil

Jon Bernthal's Punisher is making a triumphant return to the Marvel universe, following Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, in a unique Guardians of the Galaxy-style special. Entertainment Weekly reports that Bernthal is also co-writing this Marvel special with We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green. Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, describes the project as "a shotgun blast of a story," packed with the emotional depth expected of a Frank Castle narrative.

News of this Punisher one-shot arrives as Marvel Television prepares the Defenders' return to Disney+. This street-level superhero team—Daredevil (Matt Murdock), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones)—last clashed on Netflix before their series transitioned to Disney+ and became integrated into the MCU canon.

Winderbaum previously told Entertainment Weekly that exploring this expanded storytelling landscape is "creatively extremely exciting." While acknowledging the practical limitations of television production compared to the boundless possibilities of comic books, he emphasized Marvel's commitment to crafting a compelling cinematic universe.

Daredevil: Born Again, premiering March 4th, continues the Daredevil saga that began on Netflix, featuring returning characters like the Punisher and Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), played by Vincent D'Onofrio. This time, they face a formidable threat: the artistically inclined serial killer, Muse.
