Nicolas Cage decries the use of artificial intelligence in acting, asserting that actors who allow AI to influence their performances are heading towards "a dead end." He made this statement during his Saturn Awards acceptance speech for Best Actor, as reported by Variety.

Cage argued that AI cannot authentically portray the human condition, stating, "Robots cannot reflect the human condition for us." He warned that even minimal AI manipulation could compromise the integrity and truth of artistic expression, ultimately prioritizing financial gain over artistic merit. He emphasized the crucial role of art, including acting, in reflecting the human experience through a thoughtful and emotional creative process, a process he believes AI is incapable of replicating. He cautioned against allowing AI to dictate artistic expression, fearing a loss of genuine human connection and emotional depth in performances.

Cage's concerns echo those of other actors, particularly in voice acting, where AI-generated recreations of performances have become more common, even in major video games. Ned Luke (Grand Theft Auto 5) and Doug Cockle (The Witcher) have voiced similar concerns, highlighting the potential for AI to displace actors and negatively impact their livelihoods.

The film industry's response to AI is divided. While Tim Burton expressed unease, describing AI-generated art as "very disturbing," Zack Snyder advocates for embracing AI's potential rather than resisting its integration into filmmaking.
