Netflix is releasing a prequel puzzle game, The Electric State: Kid Cosmo, tied to its upcoming sci-fi film, The Electric State. Launching March 18th, just days after the film's March 14th premiere, the game offers a retro-futuristic adventure.
More Than Just a Movie Adaptation
Developed by BUCK Games (creators of the popular Let's! Revolution!), in collaboration with AGBO, Kid Cosmo isn't a direct movie adaptation. Instead, it serves as a prequel, exploring the childhoods of key characters, Chris and Michelle, through a unique game-within-a-game structure.
Set in 1985 Wichita, Kansas, the game unfolds over five years, revealing the backstory leading up to the film's events. Players will engage in puzzle-solving, reminiscent of the WarioWare series, with a distinct 80s aesthetic. Gameplay involves collecting modules, repairing Kid Cosmo's ship, and uncovering the mysteries of this unusual world.
Continuing Netflix's Interactive Spin-Off Trend
This release continues Netflix's expansion into interactive gaming, building on the success of titles like Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales and Squid Game: Unleashed.
