Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Returns to the Esports World Cup 2025
Following the apparent success of the Esports World Cup 2024, several publishers have confirmed their games' return for the 2025 edition. Hot on the heels of Free Fire's announcement, Moonton has confirmed that Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) will once again feature.
The 2024 World Cup showcased two MLBB events: the MLBB Mid-Season Cup (MSC) and the MLBB Women's Invitational. These tournaments attracted teams from around the globe to Riyadh. Selangor Red Giants emerged victorious in the MSC, while Smart Omega Empress defeated Team Vitality (ending their 25-game win streak) to claim the Women's Invitational title.
A Significant, Yet Secondary, Event?
While most games from the 2024 Esports World Cup are returning, a notable observation is the lack of truly major championships represented. The inclusion of MLBB's mid-season cup, for instance, suggests the Esports World Cup might be viewed as a supplementary event rather than the primary focus. This is a double-edged sword; it prevents the EWC from overshadowing established leagues, but it could also diminish its perceived importance.
Nevertheless, fans of the participating games will undoubtedly welcome the return of so many familiar titles to this prestigious tournament.
