Krafton Considers Renaming Dark & Darker Mobile

Author: Jonathan Apr 19,2025

The eagerly awaited mobile adaptation of the hack 'n slash extraction dungeon crawler, currently known as Dark and Darker Mobile, is facing significant changes. Recent reports indicate that Krafton is not only planning to change the game's name but is also terminating its agreement with the developer, Ironmace Studio.

This news comes at a challenging time for Ironmace, who have recently been ordered to pay $6 million in damages to Nexon due to an ongoing lawsuit. The lawsuit centers around allegations that Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, utilized trade secrets to develop Dark and Darker, which is purportedly based on Nexon's cancelled project, codenamed P3.

Despite Krafton's assertion that the name change is unrelated to the lawsuit ruling, they have also announced the termination of their global licensing agreement with Ironmace. As a result, Dark and Darker Mobile, or whatever it will be renamed, is set to become a standalone release.

Darkest of dungeonsThe ethical dimensions of this lawsuit are complex, and it's somewhat ironic that Ironmace initially filed a suit against Nexon for copyright infringement. Now, even after ending their partnership, Krafton seems poised to rebrand and proceed with the project independently, potentially opening the floodgates for similar releases in this genre.

For fans eagerly anticipating Dark and Darker Mobile, this isn't necessarily bad news. Krafton plans to stick to the global release schedule, though any changes or further developments will be communicated as they occur.

We remain hopeful that the full launch of Dark and Darker Mobile will uphold the high quality we highlighted in our review.
