Funcom, the developer behind the eagerly awaited Dune: Awakening, has provided fans with exciting updates on the game’s business model and post-launch strategy. The multiplayer survival game, inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novel and its movie adaptations, is set to launch fully on May 20, without an Early Access phase. This full launch approach marks a significant milestone for players looking forward to diving into the world of Arrakis.
Contrary to what might be expected for a game labeled as an MMO, Dune: Awakening will not require a subscription. Instead, Funcom plans to enrich the game with free updates, introducing new content, features, and enhancements. The developer will also follow a traditional business model that includes optional DLCs. This approach mirrors the successful strategy Funcom has employed with other long-running MMOs like Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles, which continue to receive free updates, DLCs, and expansions years after their initial release. Funcom assures fans that Dune: Awakening will follow suit, ensuring a continually evolving game world.
The standard edition of Dune: Awakening is priced at $49.99, while the Deluxe Edition, at $69.99, and the Ultimate Edition, at $89.99, offer additional perks. Both the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions grant players a five-day head start and access to unique items. The Deluxe Edition includes the armor of the Sardaukar, the formidable military force that players will encounter in the game. The Ultimate Edition encompasses all of the Deluxe Edition's content, plus Paul Atreides' iconic stillsuit from the 2021 film, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, exclusive color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set, complete with building pieces, placeables, and decorations.
Players who pre-order any edition of the game will receive a universal color pattern applicable to vehicles, weapons, and armor, along with the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, a special in-base decoration featuring the desert mouse from the Dune universe.
