Warner Bros. and HBO have officially unveiled the first six actors who will breathe new life into iconic Hogwarts teachers in the eagerly awaited Harry Potter series. This announcement comes after months of speculation and theories swirling around the reimagining of Harry, Hermione, and Ron's adventures.

Leading the pack is John Lithgow, known for his roles in Conclave and Dexter, who previously confirmed he would portray the wise and revered Albus Dumbledore. Joining him are some familiar names that have been rumored for months. Nick Frost, celebrated for his performances in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, will step into the boots of the beloved Rubeus Hagrid. Paapa Essiedu, acclaimed for his work in I May Destroy You and Black Mirror, will take on the complex role of Severus Snape.

Completing this initial ensemble are Janet McTeer, who will bring her gravitas from Me Before You and The Menu to the role of Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon, known from The Favourite and Present Laughter, who will play Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse, recognized for The Fast Show and Alice Through the Looking Glass, as the cantankerous Argus Filch.

Showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner, along with director and executive producer Mark Mylod, expressed their excitement about the cast: “We’re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life.”

The roles of Dumbledore, Hagrid, and Snape are not only pivotal in the Harry Potter universe but also iconic in broader pop culture. John Lithgow, in particular, acknowledged the weight of playing Dumbledore when he confirmed his involvement earlier this year. "I just got the phone call up at the Sundance Film Festival for yet another film, and it was not an easy decision because it’s going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I’m afraid," he told ScreenRant in February. "But I’m very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. That’s why it’s been such a hard decision. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I’ve said yes."
