Uth Duna makes its grand entrance in the **Scarlet Forest** during Chapter 1's mission questline. After overcoming other significant threats like Lala Barina and Congalala, you'll need to rendezvous with Olivia and Erik, who are investigating a nearby dam. As the weather shifts dramatically, Uth Duna will emerge amidst a raging monsoon during **Mission 1-5: Beyond the Deluge**. Your goal becomes clear: defeat this beast before it wreaks further havoc.

Known as **‘A Feast in the Deep’**, Uth Duna surfaces when the Scarlet Forest's waters reach perilous heights, establishing itself as the region's apex predator. Preparing to face this monster is crucial. If possible, arm yourself with a **thunder-element weapon** (obtainable from Rey Dau in Mission 2-2). Alternatively, equip gear or a Talisman like **Water Charm I** to boost your water resistance.

Before setting out, enjoy a hearty meal to keep your Health and Stamina high. Don't forget to pack **Nulberries** to counteract the **Waterblight** status ailment that Uth Duna inflicts.

Uth Duna Attacks and Weaknesses

When confronting Uth Duna, pay close attention to its iridescent fins, which serve as a **‘Veil’** that temporarily increases its defense but slows its movement. Damaging the veil enough will cause the fins to retract, exposing Uth Duna's weak points—its **Head (breakable), Mouth, Tail (breakable), and both Forelegs (breakable)**—making it more susceptible to your attacks.

However, with the veil gone, Uth Duna becomes more aggressive, unleashing its attacks more frequently. Stay agile, especially in the water, to evade its onslaught. Watch out for its main attacks:

  • **Belly Slam** – Uth Duna rears up on its back legs, exposing its belly, then slams down.
  • **Roar** – Like many monsters, Uth Duna can emit a roar that temporarily immobilizes you.
  • **Body Coil** – It coils its body and spins, then swipes with its tail.
  • **Aerial Twirl** – Mimicking a whale, Uth Duna leaps into the air and crashes down, affecting a wide area.
  • **Leg Swipe** – In close combat, it may swipe at you with its clawed feet.

After defeating Uth Duna once, you can consult your Field Guide for a detailed breakdown of its weaknesses.

As with other *Monster Hunter* games, you have the choice to capture or kill Uth Duna once it's nearly defeated. Capturing requires weakening the monster until it's "tired" or "exhausted," then using **Shock Traps** or **Pitfall Traps** followed by at least one **Tranq Bomb** to knock it out.

Both methods yield rewards, though the specific items differ. Here are the potential drops:
