Dungeons & Dragons Live Action Netflix Series in the Works, Could Launch a ‘D&D Universe’

Netflix is developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series based on The Forgotten Realms, according to Deadline. The project is a significant undertaking for Netflix in the fantasy genre and represents one of their largest investments to date. Shawn Levy (director of Deadpool and Wolverine), alongside writer-showrunner Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) and Hasbro, are spearheading the production.

The Forgotten Realms setting has previously been featured in the film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and the popular video game Baldur's Gate 3. While Netflix and Hasbro haven't officially commented, Deadline reports that Crevello has penned the pilot episode and will serve as showrunner. The series' success could potentially lead to the creation of a broader D&D universe on the platform.

Despite the promising live-action series, there's currently no confirmed sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. While star Chris Pine expressed interest and confidence in a sequel, Paramount Pictures' CEO, Brian Robbins, indicated a sequel would only proceed with a reduced budget. Meanwhile, Amazon's Secret Level anthology series features a D&D animated segment.
