The Armadillo, a passive mob introduced in Minecraft's 1.20.5 "Armored Paws" update, inhabits various warm biomes. Its tough scutes are crucial for crafting wolf armor. Here's how to acquire them:
Acquiring Armadillo Scutes:
Armadillos are found in groups of two or three within these warm biomes: Badlands, Eroded Badlands, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Windswept Savanna, and Wooded Badlands. Approach cautiously; they defensively curl into a ball if startled.
Two methods exist for obtaining scutes:
-
Passive Collection: Similar to collecting chicken eggs, an Armadillo sheds a single scute every 5-10 minutes. This requires patience but no tools.
-
Brushing: The more efficient method involves a crafted Brush. This tool gently removes one scute per use.
Brush Details:
A Brush requires one Feather, one Copper Ingot, and one Stick (arranged vertically in the crafting grid). In Java Edition, a fully durable Brush can be used four times on an Armadillo; in Bedrock Edition, five times. Damaged Brushes can be repaired using an Anvil, preserving enchantments if present. Possible enchantments include Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing.
The Process:
Approach Armadillos slowly, then use the Brush to collect scutes. Six scutes are needed for a full suit of wolf armor, which can then be crafted at a crafting table.
These methods currently represent the only ways to obtain Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft.
