Classic DOOM and DOOM 2 have received an update

While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news for fans – development has resumed, and a recent update significantly enhances the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation.

This update isn't just about visual improvements; it boosts the technical foundation of the games. A key addition is multiplayer mod support, compatible with mods built using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative gameplay now features shared item pickups and an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has also received optimization. Finally, the mod loader can now handle significantly more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a core focus. The game will offer unparalleled customization compared to previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton highlights the commitment to accessibility, stating the team aimed to make the game playable for everyone.

Players will have extensive control over enemy damage, difficulty, projectile speed, damage received, and other gameplay elements such as pace, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Stratton also confirms that prior DOOM experience isn't required to understand the narratives of DOOM: The Dark Ages and its connection to DOOM: Eternal.
