Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot Reportedly In the Works With Sarah Michelle Gellar Returning

Hulu may be bringing Buffy back from the dead! Variety reports a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is in the works, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role as Buffy, albeit as a recurring character. The series will focus on a new Slayer.

Adding star power behind the camera, Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao (known for Nomadland and Eternals) is reportedly in talks to direct and executive produce. Nora and Lila Zuckerman will write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original creator Joss Whedon is not involved.

Plot details remain scarce beyond the central focus on a new Slayer and the potential return of Gellar.

The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer followed Buffy Summers, a high school student chosen to fight demons, vampires, and other supernatural creatures. Aided by friends Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and Watcher Rupert Giles, she battled evil across seven seasons (1997-2003). The story continued through the Angel spin-off and subsequent comic books.
