Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), has launched Battlefield Labs, a revolutionary player feedback platform designed to directly involve the community in shaping future Battlefield installments. Announced on February 3, 2025, this initiative marks a significant step towards collaborative game development.
A New Era of Player Influence
The upcoming Battlefield game is entering a crucial development phase, and Battlefield Studios recognizes the invaluable contribution of player feedback. Selected players from European and North American servers will be invited to participate in the initial phase of Battlefield Labs, providing hands-on testing of new features and mechanics. While a specific release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest now via [link].
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasizes the importance of this pre-alpha testing phase: "This game has immense potential. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to fully realize that potential by incorporating direct player feedback."
While participation is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures the wider community will receive regular updates throughout the testing process. This collaborative approach is planned for future Battlefield titles as well. The studio comprises DICE (creators of the Battlefield franchise), Ripple Effect, Motive (developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space), and Criterion (renowned for racing games and contributions to various Battlefield titles).
Testing Core Gameplay Elements
Battlefield Labs will focus on key aspects of the game's design. Players will test specific elements, allowing for timely integration of feedback. The initial phase will concentrate on core combat, destruction, weapon/vehicle/gadget balance, and the interplay of these elements within maps, modes, and squad dynamics. The familiar Conquest and Breakthrough modes will be included, providing opportunities to refine existing gameplay.
Conquest, a large-scale battle for control points, utilizes a ticket system where losing tickets results in defeat. Breakthrough features attackers and defenders, with sector capture impacting ticket counts. The class system is also under scrutiny, with player feedback crucial to optimizing its design. Battlefield Studios aims for a perfect balance of form, function, and feel, believing that player input is vital to achieving this goal.
The Battlefield Labs initiative represents a commitment to community-driven development, promising a more engaging and responsive approach to creating future Battlefield experiences.
