Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released

Following a Windows 11 update (24H2), several Assassin's Creed players encountered game launch and functionality issues. Ubisoft has swiftly addressed this problem with patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, available via Steam. These updates, requiring 230 MB and 500 MB of storage space respectively, should resolve the compatibility problems.

However, the issue isn't entirely resolved. While the patches for Origins and Valhalla are effective, reports persist regarding Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which may remain unplayable or unresponsive for some users. Other Ubisoft titles, including Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, also experienced similar problems, though previous hotfixes have reportedly mitigated the most severe issues. Further optimization may still be needed.

The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. While the Windows 11 24H2 update introduced features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+, it inadvertently triggered these gaming malfunctions. Players began reporting problems five months before the official update release, highlighting a missed opportunity for preemptive patching. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's encouragement for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, most games appear unaffected by this update. Players experiencing issues with Assassin's Creed Odyssey are advised to postpone updating Windows until a dedicated patch becomes available.
