Farlight kicked off 2024 with a bang, continuing their successful partnership with Lilith Games to launch AFK Journey, catering to the ever-growing demand for idle RPGs. As we step into 2025, Farlight is not slowing down, with their latest venture, Ace Trainer, currently in soft-launch in regions such as South Korea and the US.
So, what exactly is Ace Trainer? At its core, it's reminiscent of Pokémon, where players collect, train, and level up fantastical creatures to battle on their behalf. However, Farlight has infused it with a Palworld-like twist, transforming the game into a thrilling tower defense experience against zombie hordes rather than a traditional turn-based battle system.
Adding to the mix, Ace Trainer also incorporates pinball mechanics, allowing players to shoot and collect resources, making it a truly unique blend of genres. Although the global release might be uncertain given its eclectic nature, the multi-regional soft launch suggests Farlight has high hopes for this game.
A Far Shot? The phrase "everything and the kitchen sink" aptly describes Ace Trainer. While I haven't had the chance to play it yet in the UK, the combination of PvP, PvE, tower defense, and pinball elements is dizzying. While it might make some roll their eyes, others might find the diverse gameplay exciting. These elements are popular individually, but their integration into one game raises questions about long-term engagement.
