How to Play: Basic Rules

Remember these key rules:

• The General (King) cannot leave the nine palace squares. The Advisor (Shi Zhi) remains within its designated area.
• The Elephant (Bishop) moves diagonally to the four corners of its respective camp. The Horse (Knight) moves in an "L" shape.
• The Cannon (Chariot) fires straight across rows and columns. The Chariot (Rook) 中国象棋 moves horizontally and vertically.
• Pawns advance one square at a time, and cannot retreat.
