The essence of Card War remains unchanged: the deck is split evenly between two players. Each turn, both players reveal the top card of their deck, and the player with the higher card wins the "battle," claiming both cards for their deck.

When cards of equal value are played, a "war" ensues. The stakes are raised as 1 to 15 cards are placed face-down on the table, depending on the settings. The tension builds until another round of cards is flipped, and the higher card takes all the cards on the table.
