VNeID: Vietnam's Electronic Identification and Authentication App

The VNeID app, developed by Vietnam's National Population Data Center (Ministry of Public Security), leverages population data for secure identification and electronic authentication. It's designed for Vietnamese residents and visitors.

VNeID offers a digital alternative to physical documents, enabling citizen identification in the digital realm and facilitating various e-government services. Key applications include medical report declarations, streamlined domestic travel declarations, and assisting authorities in COVID-19 contact tracing and notifications.

App Permissions: Using VNeID requires granting the following permissions:

1. Internet Access: For app functionality.
2. Camera Access: To scan CCCD (Citizen Identity Card) QR codes for faster data entry and quick travel/medical declarations.
3. Media Access (Photos, Videos, Audio, Files): To store QR code images for verification at checkpoints.
4. Notification Access: To receive app notifications.

Personal Information Collection: Data is collected only with user consent through in-app forms. This includes name, phone number, citizen ID, gender, birthdate, address, nationality, health status, travel details (origin, destination, vehicle plate), and COVID-19 exposure information. Data is used solely for public health purposes.

User Responsibility: Users are responsible for the accuracy and legality of the information they provide.

Privacy and Copyright Protection: Data is securely stored and managed by the National Population Data Center, used exclusively for COVID-19 prevention and control, and never for commercial purposes. Information may be shared with health authorities and other relevant agencies to enhance disease prevention efforts. No other uses of user data are permitted. The app adheres to Vietnamese law and its privacy policy regarding user data protection.

Key Privacy Features:

• No Location Tracking: VNeID does not collect location data.
• Anonymity: User participation within the community remains anonymous, except for information shared with authorities for legitimate contact tracing purposes related to COVID-19.
