Application Description

Diagnose your car's issues and access vital sensor data with Piston, your mobile OBD2 diagnostic tool. A simple-to-use interface puts your car's health at your fingertips.

Is that Check Engine Light (MIL) flashing? Piston transforms your mobile device into a powerful car scanner, instantly reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and Freeze Frame data. This crucial information helps pinpoint the problem and guides you towards a solution. You'll need an ELM327-based Bluetooth or Wi-Fi adapter—simply connect it to your vehicle's OBD2 port, and Piston will walk you through the process (instructions are available on the Home page after installation or within the Settings menu).

Piston's Key Features:

  • Read and clear OBD2-standard Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
  • Access detailed Freeze Frame data (sensor readings at the moment of malfunction)
  • Monitor real-time sensor data
  • Check Readiness Monitor status (emission control systems)
  • Save DTC history locally or in the cloud (requires login)
  • View sensor data charts
  • Export real-time sensor data
  • Retrieve your vehicle's VIN
  • Examine ECU details (OBD protocol, PID count)

Note: Some features are Premium and require a one-time in-app purchase—no subscriptions!

Compatibility and Requirements:

Piston requires a separate ELM327 Bluetooth or Wi-Fi adapter. It's compatible with OBD-II (OBDII, OBD2), and EOBD standards. For US vehicles, OBD2 compliance is mandated for all cars manufactured from 1996 onwards. In the EU, EOBD became mandatory for petrol cars in 2001 and diesel cars in 2004. Australia and New Zealand adopted OBD2 for petrol cars from 2006 and diesel cars from 2007.

Important: Piston only accesses data supported and provided by your vehicle via the OBD2 standard.
