WoW's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration
The annual World of Warcraft Feast of Winter Veil, a festive in-game event mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities. Each year brings new collectibles, gold, and other goodies for players to discover.
A recently released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the rich history of Winter Veil. The video explores the holiday's origins, weaving together the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter (a Titan-forged giant), Tauren traditions of gratitude and renewal, and the modern commercialization of the holiday by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures.
A Hilarious History: Metzen the Reindeer
No account of Winter Veil would be complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer boasts a history of three separate kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and by the Grinch in the current iteration. The video concludes with a humorous thank you from Metzen, voiced in Thrall's iconic tone (a fitting tribute, as Metzen voiced the Orc Shaman).
Blizzard's Content Creator Collaborations
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first official collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge for Wrath of the Lich King Classic, World Trees and Blackrock Depths for modern WoW, and guides for events like Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. This demonstrates Blizzard's ongoing commitment to partnering with talented content creators.
Winter Veil 2024 Highlights
Players have until January 5th, 2024, to participate in the Feast of Winter Veil. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift – perhaps a surprise like last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy!
