In an insightful interview with Wccftech at Gamescom 2024, the developers of Tides of Annihilation from Eclipse Glow Games delved into the game's unique concept and future aspirations. The game, set in a post-apocalyptic modern-day London, intricately weaves Arthurian legends into its narrative, aiming to captivate a Western audience.
Tides of Annihilation Aims For A Western Audience
The Central Concept Of Arthurian Myths And Knights

Eclipse Glow Games, despite their China-based roots, opted for a Western setting in Tides of Annihilation due to strategic direction from their financier, Tencent. The producer explained, "This game and Black Myth: Wukong are two projects invested in by Tencent, and there were different expectations set on these two projects. Black Myth: Wukong targeted the Chinese market, but for this project, we targeted a Western audience, so we chose the Arthurian legends." This led to the central theme revolving around knights, specifically King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
Set in a ravaged London following an Outworld invasion, the game follows Gwendolyn, the apparent last human survivor. The setting blends modern-day elements with fantasy inspired directly by Arthurian myths, creating a rich, immersive world.
Devil May Cry-inspired Combat And Over 30 Bosses

Tides of Annihilation's combat system draws significant inspiration from the iconic Devil May Cry series, as acknowledged by the developers: "It's definitely more like Devil May Cry" but with an accessible twist through difficulty selection. The game aims to cater to a broad audience with its simple controls, yet it promises depth through customizable combat styles. Players can choose from four weapons and command over ten different Knights of the Round Table as they navigate the ruins of London to unravel the mystery of the invasion. With over 30 bosses, each with unique abilities, the game ensures a challenging yet rewarding experience.
Plans Of Creating An Anthology

Looking to the future, Eclipse Glow Games expressed interest in expanding Tides of Annihilation into an anthology. They aim to explore different settings and mythologies, each with a new protagonist, while retaining the core concept of an Outworld invasion. The success of the initial title is crucial for realizing this vision, as the team hopes to bring more mythologies and stories to life.
Currently in its beta phase, Tides of Annihilation is slated for a tentative 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will embark on a thrilling journey with Gwendolyn, battling to save not only London but also the intertwined fantasy realm of Avalon.
