Hello, game enthusiasts! Welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024. Today's update features a substantial lineup of new releases, forming the core of this Thursday's column. We'll also explore a noteworthy list of new sales. Let's dive into the games!
Featured New Releases
Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)
The Famicom Detective Club returns after a long hiatus with a new case. Staying true to the originals, this installment offers a fresh mystery presented in a style reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Solve the latest serial murder case! My review is coming soon.
Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)
Mikhail's comprehensive review provides an in-depth look at the gameplay and Switch performance. In short: build and battle Gunplas! While performance naturally lags behind other platforms, it's still a satisfying experience. Check out Mikhail's insightful review!
Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)
Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes. This reimagining of an 8-bit classic offers a fresh take on the original. Expect a classic action-platformer with a modern twist. My review will be available early next week.
Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)
A departure from its predecessor, Valfaris, this title is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter. While the genre change might surprise some, it delivers an enjoyable experience. My review is forthcoming.
Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)
The gameplay remains a bit of a mystery to me, but the visuals are undeniably appealing. Perhaps it involves food photography, hidden secrets, or a unique blend of both? Mikhail might shed some light on this one.
Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)
For monster truck enthusiasts, this game offers local and online multiplayer, various modes, and plenty of action. While reception on other platforms has been mixed, it caters to a niche audience with limited alternatives.
WitchSpring R ($39.99)
Likely a remake of the original WitchSpring, this installment boasts enhanced visuals. While previously a budget-friendly mobile title, its price point now rivals full-fledged Atelier games. Still, it appears to be the most polished WitchSpring entry yet.
Depths of Sanity ($19.99)
An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror theme. Unravel the mystery of your missing crew while navigating a perilous interconnected underwater world. Combat is involved. Well-received on other platforms, it's likely to resonate with Switch players.
Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)
A farming and action game where a vegan vampire battles his bloodthirsty father. While I'm personally somewhat fatigued by the genre, those with a penchant for farming and combat might find it appealing.
Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)
A classic marble roller game with 70 stages and 80 marbles to collect. Features secret collectibles and challenges. If you enjoy fast-paced marble rolling, this game delivers.
Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)
A kid-friendly firefighting game featuring 20 missions. Offers a more lighthearted approach compared to other, more realistic firefighting games on the Switch.
Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)
A grotesque action game about a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is reportedly solid, the Switch version suffers from technical issues impacting the overall experience.
Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)
A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. A charming, retro shooter with a unique twist.
EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)
An early expansion pack featuring new areas to explore. Gameplay is similar to the original, but with increased difficulty. Notable for featuring the debut work of renowned composer Yuzo Koshiro.
The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)
A horror/survival/roguelite game supporting up to ten online players. The ideal experience is multiplayer; solo play might appeal to a more specific audience.
Can of Wormholes ($19.99)
A clever puzzle game where you play as a sentient tin can dealing with worms. Features 100 hand-crafted puzzles with consistently fresh ideas.
Ninja I & II ($9.99)
Two NES-style microgames featuring ninja-themed challenges. Supports local multiplayer or CPU competition.
Dice Make 10! ($3.99)
A surprisingly fun puzzle game with two modes: falling blocks and piece placement. The goal is to create rows or columns where dice faces add up to multiples of ten.
