So, you've heard whispers that *Rune Slayer*, despite its name, harbors a surprisingly deep MMORPG element: fishing. Yes, really. And while it might not be as intuitive as, say, *Fisch*, fear not! We've wrestled with the Rune Slayer fishing mechanics, and we're here to share our hard-earned wisdom. Get ready to reel in some aquatic… *things*.

Your fishing journey begins with Simon the Fisherman, a white-haired NPC found near the pier where barracuda swim. He'll hand you a quest: catch 5 "fish." The quotes are important, as you'll see. In return, he'll reward you with a handy Tackle Box.

To catch those "fish," you'll need a fishing rod and bait. Conveniently, Simon sells both. Grab a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 Worms (10 is recommended). Important note: you *don't* equip the bait. Just keep the Worms in your inventory. Each successful catch (or unsuccessful, as you'll see) consumes one Worm.
Here's the crucial bit: we discovered you need *at least* 5 Worms in your inventory to even start catching anything. One worm simply won't cut it. For easy tracking, keep those Worms in your hotbar.
How to Catch Fish (or Junk) in Rune Slayer

Select your Wood Fishing Rod (no equipping needed—just have it in your hotbar). Cast your line (hold M1) into the water near Simon. Watch the bobber. When it ripples (once or twice), click M1 again to reel in your catch. It’s that simple… or not.
Be prepared for some… unexpected results. You won't always catch fish. Sometimes, you'll haul in junk. But good news: Simon counts junk as a "fish" toward your quest completion.

Once you've caught 5 "fish" (fish or otherwise), return to Simon to complete the quest and receive your Tackle Box. Store your remaining Worms in the box to free up valuable inventory space. Happy fishing!
