RTX 5090/80 Shortage Warning

The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards are set to launch on January 30th. However, concerns regarding significant stock shortages are mounting, fueled by reports from various retailers and manufacturers.

Potential buyers are already lining up outside stores, highlighting the immense demand for these cards, despite their premium prices ($1,999 for the RTX 5090 and $999 for the RTX 5080).

MSI, a major manufacturer, attributes the initial scarcity to the Lunar New Year, anticipating stock levels to improve in February. This limited initial supply has been echoed by retailers like Overclockers UK, reporting extremely low stock numbers for the RTX 5090, and PowerGPU, predicting severely constrained availability.

To address these concerns, Nvidia representative Tim@Nvidia issued a statement acknowledging the anticipated high demand and potential for stock-outs. The company assures consumers that they and their partners are actively working to increase retail stock levels.

Despite Nvidia's statement, the fear of limited availability is likely to fuel scalping activities. Pre-sale listings on eBay already showcase inflated prices, with one Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 listed for a staggering $5,750—a massive markup of 187%.

Adding to Nvidia's challenges this week, a recent announcement of a cost-effective Chinese AI model, DeepSeek, has caused a significant drop (16.86%) in Nvidia's share price, potentially impacting the company's datacenter GPU sales.
