A former employee of Respawn Entertainment disclosed on LinkedIn that the studio has halted the development of a new game this week. The project, which had been in the works for several years, was stopped abruptly, and no reasons were provided for the decision. Last year, journalist Jeff Grubb reported that this game was not a mainline entry in the Titanfall series, specifically not Titanfall 3. Respawn had formed an "experimental team" dedicated to the project, bringing on board experts in multiplayer shooter development.
This isn't the first time Respawn has canceled a project; last year, they also shut down an arcade shooter codenamed Titanfall Legends. The Titanfall series, known for its exhilarating mix of action and mech piloting, allows players to engage in combat either as agile pilots or commanding formidable Titans. Since the debut of the first game in 2014, the franchise has captured the gaming community's attention with its unique blend of parkour and intense team battles.
Currently, Respawn's focus has shifted to other high-profile projects. They are diligently working on the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series and are collaborating with Bit Reactor on a new strategy game set in the Star Wars universe. These developments highlight Respawn's commitment to expanding their portfolio beyond the Titanfall franchise.
