Previously called Project Q, the device boasts an 8-inch LCD screen, a full HD 1080p display, and a 60 frames per second (fps) refresh rate. "PlayStation Portal is ideal for gamers in homes where they may need to share their living room TV or simply wish to play PS5 games elsewhere in the house," Sony announced today in its Southeast Asian PlayStation Portal release statement. One of the PlayStation Portal's features is the ability to connect to a user's PS5 console via Wi-Fi, enabling smooth transitions between TV and handheld gaming. This feature is attractive; however, users have reported subpar performance. As stated by Sony, PlayStation Portal Remote Play needs a broadband internet Wi-Fi connection with at least 5Mbps.

Recently, Sony addressed connectivity problems by releasing a significant update for the PlayStation Portal, enabling connections to public Wi-Fi networks. Initially, the device only supported slower 2.4GHz bands, resulting in less-than-ideal remote play speeds. Sony released Update 3.0.1 a few days ago, allowing the PlayStation Portal to connect to specific 5GHz networks.

PlayStation Portal users on social media report that the update has yielded more stable connections. "I'm the biggest portal critic, but mine is performing much better now," one user commented.
