Pirate Software has been expelled from the World of Warcraft streamer guild, OnlyFangs, following a disastrous run in Dire Maul North. This dungeon, recently introduced to the World of Warcraft Anniversary servers, has already claimed the lives of several OnlyFangs members in Hardcore mode.
Before Blizzard officially launched Hardcore servers for its Classic client in August 2023, players had been self-imposing zero-death rules. The popularity of these servers waned until the introduction of Anniversary servers in November 2024, which revitalized World of Warcraft Classic and led to a decline in the original Classic server population. Since their addition, numerous Hardcore players have met their demise, while a few have successfully reached level 60 under these stringent conditions. Among the recent casualties are Sara and Snupy, prompting Guild Master Sodapoppin to ban the responsible player, Pirate Software, from OnlyFangs.
Sodapoppin confirmed Pirate Software's removal via a Discord statement, citing discomfort among guild members after the deaths of two players during the Dire Maul North run. The incident occurred when the group, after pulling a boss and a pack of Gordok ogres, attempted to reset the enemies by fleeing the dungeon. Pirate Software's decision to abandon the group during their escape led to the tragic outcomes. Despite the possibility of remaining in the guild under normal circumstances, Pirate Software's refusal to acknowledge his role in the deaths of Sara and Snupy sealed his fate. The primary criticism leveled against Pirate Software is his failure to take responsibility for the Hardcore deaths, particularly for not effectively using crowd control abilities. During a review of the run, Sodapoppin highlighted that Pirate Software could have utilized Blizzard rank 1 to slow down the enemies without exhausting his mana reserves. Additionally, fellow OnlyFangs member Mizkif suggested that Pirate Software's threats to other streamers post-incident contributed to his expulsion. Pirate Software took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with how the situation was managed.
Since the guild's reformation on the Anniversary server Doomhowl, several members have been removed, and some may form their own groups. With Blizzard continuing to update World of Warcraft Classic with Vanilla-accurate patches, the addition of new dungeons and raids could lead to further OnlyFangs casualties.
