Team Ninja has unleashed a substantial update for Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, boosting it to version 1.0.7.0 and introducing highly anticipated features like New Game Plus and Photo Mode.
This patch, promised in January to address player feedback, is now live on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam & Microsoft Store).
New Game Plus allows players to restart their adventure on any previously completed difficulty, retaining all acquired weapons and Ninpo. However, these items will revert to level 1, and progression to higher difficulties isn't immediately available via New Game Plus.
A significant quality-of-life improvement is the option to conceal the projectile weapon carried on the player's back. This toggle is conveniently located within the Options menu under Game Settings.
Balance adjustments include HP reductions for enemies in Chapters 8 and 11, increased enemy counts in Chapters 13 and 14, and a damage boost for some of Ayane's attacks.
The update also tackles several bug fixes, addressing high-performance PC issues, game-breaking bugs in specific chapters, and more. Detailed patch notes are provided below.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a surprise release during January's Xbox Developer Direct, is a remastered version leveraging Unreal Engine 5's capabilities to enhance visuals, introduce new playable characters, and improve combat mechanics. IGN's 8/10 review praised its visual improvements over Sigma 2, calling it "a definite and gorgeous improvement" while noting that fewer, but tougher enemies, might prevent it from being the ultimate version.
