Amazon is refunding pre-orders for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, notifying customers via email due to "lack of availability." This news, reported on January 11, 2025, across various online forums, has caused some concern among fans.

Refunds for cancelled pre-orders are expected within 1-2 business days. While disappointing for those who pre-ordered, particularly long-time fans who've waited since the game's 2017 announcement, the cancellation doesn't signal game cancellation; it simply reflects Amazon's current inability to fulfill pre-orders.

The game's development has been a long and winding road. Initially announced at E3 2017 without a named developer, development was later restarted under Retro Studios in 2019 due to the initial progress not meeting Nintendo's standards.
