Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking place in the aftermath of the Battle of Jakku and the Galactic Civil War's conclusion. This new chapter will follow the iconic trio of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to build the New Republic and bring stability to a galaxy in flux.
The new volume will be penned by Alex Segura, who previously wrote the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries. The artwork will be crafted by veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Both Noto and Leinil Yu will contribute cover art for the first issue.
Set approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, the series picks up after the pivotal Battle of Jakku. As the New Republic endeavors to cement its authority, our heroes encounter fresh obstacles posed by pirates, thieves, and other malevolent forces looking to exploit the power void left by the Empire's fall.
Segura shared his excitement with StarWars.com, stating, "Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking. These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."
Noto expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, "Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline."
Star Wars #1 is slated for release on May 7, 2025, perfectly timed with this year's Star Wars Day festivities.
This isn't the only new comic Marvel has planned post-Return of the Jedi. In February, they will launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, which delves into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
