Marvel Star Simu Liu Says He's Working to Get Sleeping Dogs a Film Adaptation

Simu Liu, the Marvel star, is spearheading efforts to revive the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu confirmed on X/Twitter that he's actively working with rights holders to bring the video game to the big screen.

This follows the recent cancellation announcement, confirmed by Donnie Yen, who was originally attached to star in the 2017 adaptation. Yen revealed significant investment of time and resources, including personal funds, into the project before its demise, citing the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.

Liu's intervention reignites hope for the Hong Kong-set action franchise. However, the success of his endeavor in securing the rights or moving the project forward remains uncertain.

The original Sleeping Dogs game, released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows detective Wei Shen's undercover operation within a Hong Kong Triad. Its critical acclaim, including an 8/10 rating from IGN, failed to generate any sequels, adding to the anticipation surrounding a potential film adaptation.
