Hasbro is bringing the world of Magic: The Gathering to the screen, partnering with Legendary Entertainment to create a shared cinematic universe spanning movies and television shows. The focus will initially be on developing a feature film.
Legendary's chairman of worldwide production stated, “We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering.” Legendary's impressive filmography includes Dune, the Godzilla franchise (including Godzilla vs. Kong), and Detective Pikachu, showcasing their experience with large-scale fantasy and adaptation.
The report suggests the Legendary adaptations may be separate from the previously announced Netflix animated series. However, it's also possible this new initiative incorporates the animated series into a broader, unified *Magic: The Gathering* universe.Created by Wizards of the Coast in 1993 and acquired by Hasbro in 1999, Magic: The Gathering has evolved into a globally recognized and beloved trading card game.
This isn't Hasbro's first foray into film adaptations. Their extensive history includes franchises like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons & Dragons. Currently, Hasbro has several projects underway, including new installments in the G.I. Joe and Power Rangers franchises, as well as a Beyblade movie.
