AHOY Comics' 2024 revival of cult hero Toxic Crusader continues this year with "Toxic Mess Summer," a crossover event uniting Toxie with AHOY's diverse roster of heroes, including a surprising team-up with Jesus Christ.
The summer kicks off in May with The Toxic Avenger Pinup Special, showcasing various artists' interpretations of Toxie and his world. This is followed by the Toxie Team-Up miniseries, featuring Toxie alongside the Jersey Devil (from Project: Cryptid), Acid Chimp (My Bad), Dragonflyman and Stinger (The Wrong Earth), Swamp Cop and Schitt (Justice Warriors), and, notably, Jesus Christ from Second Coming.
Toxie Team-Up #1 is written and illustrated by Mark Russell and Richard Pace, the creative team behind Second Coming. Russell commented in AHOY's press release, stating the team-up is a long-awaited pairing, highlighting Christ's approach to conflict resolution and the relatable aspects of Tromaville for someone familiar with Roman-era bullying.
AHOY Comics Editor-in-Chief Tom Peyer emphasized Toxie's pop culture status, quipping about the lack of a Toxie-centric church.
The Toxic Avenger's cinematic return is also slated for 2025. IGN's Amelia Emberwing described the 2023 film as a mixed bag, praising its heart and practical effects while noting a departure from the original's "so-bad-it's-good" charm. The strong performances of Kevin Bacon and Peter Dinklage were also highlighted.
