League of Legends Reverses Course on Unpopular Changes

The Return of Hextech Chests

Following player feedback, League of Legends (LoL) is reinstating Hextech Chests. A developer update, posted on Riot Games' website on February 27, 2025, and accompanied by a YouTube video, details upcoming changes.

Riot Games acknowledged recent unpopular updates, stating, "Recently, we’ve made changes that haven’t resonated with everyone. We've heard your feedback, and it's clear adjustments are needed." The return of Hextech Chests is a direct response to this feedback. Riot explained, "For many, Hextech Chests weren't just a way to get items; they were a rewarding part of the League experience. We underestimated their importance, leading to poorly received changes."

Starting with patch 25.05, players can earn up to 10 chests and keys per act. Eight chests are available through the free pass, with the remaining two earnable via the Honor system.

Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed, Further Fan Feedback Addressed

The upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, along with the entire Exalted skin line, has been delayed. Riot aims to "ensure it better reflects its core fantasy." This means the planned release of an Exalted skin each act will not occur this year.

Responding to further feedback regarding Mythic Essence, LoL will "replace one non-Prestige skin with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing the lack of Essence in the paid pass and the excessive number of champions per seasonal theme."

Addressing player concerns about champion accessibility, the Blue Essence cost for all champions will be reduced by 50% in patch 25.05.

Finally, in response to previous announcements about reduced Clash frequency, LoL is reinstating a monthly Clash schedule. March will feature ARURF Clash, followed by a regular SR Clash in April.

Popular features, Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium, are making a comeback this year, launching in patches 25.06 and 25.07 respectively.

Riot Games concluded, "Improving League isn't a one-time fix; it's an ongoing process. Today's updates are a crucial step. We'll continue monitoring player feedback, making adjustments as needed." This statement highlights Riot's commitment to incorporating player feedback for ongoing game improvement.
