Hamm Eyes Marvel Cinematic Universe Role

Renowned actor Jon Hamm, best known for his role in Mad Men, is reportedly in negotiations with Marvel Studios for a potential MCU debut. Hamm has actively pursued MCU roles, even pitching himself for several parts based on comic book storylines that resonate with him. His previous attempt to join the Marvel universe as Mister Sinister in The New Mutants was cut short due to the film's production difficulties.

However, Hamm's chances of entering the MCU seem significantly improved. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he revealed discussions with Marvel executives regarding adapting a specific comic book he admires, even stating his belief that he's the perfect fit for the role. While the specific comic book remains undisclosed, fan speculation runs rampant, with many suggesting Hamm would excel as Doctor Doom, a role he previously expressed interest in. This enthusiasm stems from his past Marvel fandom and his disappointment over the scrapped New Mutants scenes.

Hamm's career has been marked by a deliberate avoidance of typecasting. He’s consistently chosen roles that intrigue him, demonstrating his range in projects like Fargo and The Morning Show. This selective approach makes a villainous role, like Doctor Doom, particularly compelling, despite the latter's absence (so far) from the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, which is rumored to feature Galactus as the primary antagonist. The possibility of a resurrected Mister Sinister role under Disney's production, however, remains open. Ultimately, the success of Hamm's collaboration with Marvel and the specific project's cinematic adaptation remains to be seen.
