PlayStation Productions Unveils Ambitious Slate of Game Adaptations at CES 2025

PlayStation Productions made a splash at CES 2025, announcing a wave of new video game adaptations set for release in 2025 and beyond. The announcements, made on January 7th, 2025, included anime, film, and television projects.

New Adaptations Announced:

• Ghost of Tsushima: Legends (Anime): A new anime series based on the popular Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer mode, Legends, is in the works, a collaboration between Crunchyroll and Aniplex. Directed by Takanobu Mizumo and with story composition by Gen Urobuchi, the series will premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027. Sony Music will handle the music and soundtrack.

• Horizon Zero Dawn (Film): Sony Pictures will produce a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn.

• Helldivers 2 (Film): Columbia Pictures is developing a movie based on Helldivers 2. Details on both films remain scarce.

• Until Dawn (Film): A film adaptation of Until Dawn is slated for release on April 25, 2025.

• The Last of Us Season 2 (TV): Neil Druckmann, alongside a brief tease of Naughty Dog's upcoming Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, unveiled a new trailer for The Last of Us season two, which will adapt the storyline of The Last of Us Part II, introducing characters like Abby and Dina.

Past Successes and Future Projects:

PlayStation Productions' track record includes successful adaptations like Uncharted (2022) and Gran Turismo (2023), both of which exceeded box office expectations. The Twisted Metal series, while less critically acclaimed than The Last of Us, completed production on its second season in late 2024. A release date for season two is yet to be announced.

Beyond the CES announcements, PlayStation Productions continues work on film adaptations of Days Gone and a sequel to Uncharted, as well as a God of War television series.
